TEAM CLAUSE: The benefits of working together
By Dale Beaumont
There was a time when Santa was real. Lying in bed on Christmas Eve, I knew the sooner I fell asleep the sooner I would get that brand new BMX. I wanted to sleep but I couldn't. What I really wanted was to sneak a glimpse of the big, jolly man in red himself.
Every year I fought the relentless battle with sleep, however, tiredness always prevailed and with the blink of an eye I was literally in another world. Another Eve gone and another sack full of presents left as proof that I had been visited during the night.
Sifting through memories of noisy rooftops and empty milk glasses, I had often questioned Santa's existence while contemplating how one man could possibly travel to so many houses in just one night. But after taking the BMX for a test ride, I didn't give it another thought and quickly convinced myself that it was magic elf powder.
Many years later as I thought about this, I realised that perhaps I was onto something. No, it had nothing to do with magic powder, but it did have to do with his helpers.
Santa's evolution as an iconic figure of the festive seasons was a result of a supportive team. His elves and reindeers made Santa successful. As I became an adult I understood that his team extended beyond just elves and reindeers, but also included parents and consumerists.
Perhaps this Christmas experience can teach us something about team work, and how we can make something out of nothing if we have the right people.
Dasher and Dancer, Prancer and Vixen, Comet...

Prior to take-off, Santa ensures that his reindeers have been given careful consideration. They are well-fed and groomed and excited about their night ahead. On returning to the North Pole, the reindeers receive immediate attention. They have played an integral role in Santa's success, and he ensures that they are well-looked after.
Brad Sugars, Action International Chairman, rates people as the most important ingredient of a successful entrepreneur. He says "a great jockey can get an average horse to win, but an average jockey can stop even a great horse from having any chance of success."
Appreciate the people who work for you, no matter how large or small their role is.
Little people dressed in green

A cheerful melody floats amongst a workshop filled with little men and women dressed in green outfits. This is where Santa's dreams are literally built. His little helpers share his vision and make it happen.
Sue Whyte, owner of Intimo, believes that she could not have built her dream company without loyal staff by her side. For her, people are a company's greatest asset so you need to hire the right people.
Surround yourself with people that share your passion.
The non-believers

All over the world there are grown-ups sneaking through the house on Christmas Eve, scoffing down cookies and drinking glasses of milk. Adults, in an effort to keep the Christmas spirit alive, have the power to keep Santa Clause in business.
According to Carol Comer, founder of High Impact, word of mouth is the most effective form of promotion and she encourages her clients to 'spread the word'. She understands that it is her customers' perception and opinions that help her stay in business.
Whether consumers use your business or not, ensure that you're spoken about highly.
Fake beards and tall elves

Malls and shops housing Santa's with wool glued to their chins and elves in pants that end at their knees are, nevertheless, a reminder of the Christmas spirit. Retail outlets transform the dream-like qualities of the North Pole into an everyday reality over the Christmas period.
Phillip Mills believes that it takes years of hard work to turn a vision into reality, so you need to recruit a team capable of achieving your vision and turning your dream into a reality.
Recruit people that are willing to help you actualise your dreams.
In Wrapping Up
Understand that Santa Clause's success greatly depends on the efforts of his team. Without the help of his elves and reindeers, how can Santa deliver millions and millions of presents to children all over the world? (No, it's not magic powder.) And without the parents and consumerists how would Santa's reputation have strengthened and his longevity sustained?
So over this Christmas period, I ask you to take some time to share a thought for those special people who help you everyday.
