Wink and Grow Rich #8

The journey of nine year old Richard in Wink and Grow Rich is one which I believe many of us can relate to. If you are lucky enough to have a copy of the book, aim to read a chapter a day. If you don’t have the book then you can Click here to download the Book Summary or Audio Summary.

The key really is in: Apply, Rinse and Repeat.

Your Well is in your Words

They have a better mindset because they asked better questions. Because they used better words.

-Richard

To find our well of wealth, we not only need to Ask the right questions… we must also use better words. Next time you have a conversation with someone, stay alert and notice how people react differently to these words: “should” “could” “would”, then try replacing them with “shall” “can” “will”.

Learning is a game after all, so make this one of the many games in life!

Invest more of your money, Spend less of it

To Create Wealth, Learning how to Invest Your Time is more Important than Learning how to Invest Your Money.

Invest Your Time in educating yourself, then you will know how to invest your money. Don’t forget that there are many different means in which you can invest money, the problem is to find one that is suitable for you.

Many people nowadays haven’t mastered the benefits of delayed gratification: To work hard now and reap the rewards later. Instead we spend our money on things which give us some form of satisfaction, knowing that it will never be lasting. Don’t let yourself fall into the trap!

Invest more of your time, Spend less of it

Everyone has something very precious which can be exchanged to invest in many opportunities. Time.

Each of us have 24 hours in a day, and with each hour we can choose to either invest or spend it. Work (our jobs) is something different from the two, it is an exchange of time for money.

Richard: But how do you know if you are spending time or investing time?

Plumber: When you spend your time, you may have gotten something, but you haven’t built anything. When you invest your time, you end that day or that week having built something that is lasting.

Learning Is A Game

Learning is a game. Remember that.

Sure, plan your strokes on land, write it down, but then you’ve got to jump in and sink or swim. Then get back out and review what happened.

Ask how you can improve. Then do it all over again. You’ll learn in no time.

Try to learn when you’re safe and dry, and you’re just kidding yourself.

- The Plumber

Think it, Ink it. Do it, Review it.

Some very important points we learn from the Plumber:

  • Learning is a game
  • Plan your strokes on land, write it down, but then you’ve got to jump in and sink or swim
  • Get out and review what happened. Ask how you can improve
  • Do it all over again

Ask And You Shall Receive

No matter how hard you try, and no matter how long you stare at something or someone, people can’t read your mind. Although most people would readily help you, they won’t know what it is exactly that you want.

How many times have you complained about something only to have the response, “Why didn’t you say anything?”

The successful people know about this, and Mark Victor Hansen and Jack Canfield even wrote a book called The Aladdin Factor based on this factor. So next time you want something, ask!

What You See Is What You Get

We all live in our own reality, and we’re limited by our beliefs. Think of the time when it was thought that the world was flat, or when flying to the moon seemed like an impossibility.

The opportunities of man are limited only by his imagination. But so few have imagination that there are ten thousand fiddlers to one composer.

- Charles F. Kettering

Once you open your mind to the possibilities, you will see all the opportunities in the palm of your hand.

Choose The Level You Want to Play At

Life is a Game we all play whether we want to or not. The rules of the game change depending on what level you want to play at. The wealthy know the rules, and they know that wealth is in the resources around you. So which of the 4 levels do you choose to play/communicate?

  • Exchange
  • Connect
  • Motivate
  • Inspire

The majority of us Exchange with those around us. Exchange news, Exchange stories, Exchange gossip.

With better Clarity, we Connect with the people around us. To form meaning and value in our relationships.

To Motivate is the work of leaders with Focus. They Connect with the people around them and create momentum.

The leader of leaders are those who Inspire, those who have a Vision.
